Primarily Primates
This accredited sanctuary welcomed "The Mighty Three" chimpanzee group from the Wildlife Waystation in December 2019.
About the Sanctuary
Primarily Primates, Inc., located in Bexar County, Texas, provides permanent, lifetime care and housing for rescued animals - most of whom are primates, including 31 chimpanzees. In December 2019, they welcomed "The Mighty Three" - Norma, Selena, and Mighty Fine - three chimpanzees from the Wildlife Waystation.
The 300+ animals living here have been saved from biomedical research, the pet trade, and the entertainment industry. Now, animal residents including chimpanzees, lemurs, small primates, kinkajous, birds, and farmed animals enjoy the peace true sanctuary brings. The organization was founded in 1978, making it the first primate sanctuary in North America and the first to rescue chimpanzees requiring lifetime care following medical research.
Primarily Primates is accredited by the Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries and is committed to compassionate and appropriate zoological care so animals may live the rest of their lives with dignity, experience proper social environments, and make choices about how they want to spend their days.
